BOOT BUTLER - PRODUCT INFORMATION

What height boots does the Boot Butler work with?

Our boot racks work best with boots that are from mid-calf high up to boots that are 1-2 inches (2-5 CM) over the knee, although to some degree this depends on the style and size of the boots. That said, they also work with most shorter boots. For very tall boots that extend up to mid thigh, many people just roll the top of the boot shaft down a few inches (like the cuff on a pair of jeans) so that they fit on the boot hanger.

How high does my closet rod need to be to fit 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 pair of boots vertically in one column?

General Guidelines

We designed our 5-pair boot rack to fit in the most common closet configuration where there is generally at least 5 feet 4 inches (1.63 meters) of space below the closet rod.  If your closet has a garment rod that's high enough to hang long dresses, then you can almost certainly fit 5 and maybe even 6 pairs of boots in one column below that rod.

Depending on the size and weight of the pair of boots you store at the bottom, it's sometimes possible to hang 5 pairs of boots below a rod that as little as 5 feet (1.52 meters) from the floor.

We designed our 3-pair boot rack to fit comfortably below standard double hanging closet rods where there's at least 3 feet 4 inches (1.02 meters) of space below the rods.  If your closet has two garment rods (i.e. a double hanging configuration) and the rods are high enough to hang a button down dress shirt, then you can definitely fit 2 and most likely 3 pairs of boots below that rod.

Modular Design is Adaptable to Any Rod Height

The great thing about the modular design of our boot racks is that no matter the height of the rod where you want to store your boots, you can fit either the 5-pair or the 3-pair size boot racks. If it turns out that you don't have quite enough space below the rod to hang the entire rack in one column, you can just take the parts that don't fit and use them to begin another column of boots next to the first. In this way, you can combine any number of pairs of our boot racks to store any size collection of boots!

Designing a Custom Closet and Want to Plan a Space for Boot Butler

If you're in the process of customizing a closet and you want to design in an area especially for your boots, please refer to the table below.

I'm designing a custom closet with Boot Butler boot racks, how much horizontal space should I provide per column of boots in a given opening?

While each boot rack is less than 7 inches (17.8 CM) wide, we recommend providing 10 inches (25.4 CM) for each column of boots to ensure that you have ample space to maneuver even the bulkiest boots.  That said, if you are a little tight on space, 9 inches (23 CM) per column is generally sufficient. Please refer to the following table for the recommended opening size.

Are there any boot sizes (i.e. shoe size) that Boot Butler boot organizers don't work with?

Our boot storage racks work well with all adult sizes, and most children's sizes, but some very small children's shoe sizes may not sit on the boot hanger properly.

I lost my Assembly Instructions, where can I get another copy?

No problem! You can download/print a new copy here:

Can I hang two 3-pair boot racks together to create a column/stack that is 6 pairs of boots high?

The answer is yes, but let me explain just to make sure we're talking about the same thing. Our Boot Butler boot storage system is designed to be totally modular, so the only difference between the 5-pair and the 3-pair units is the number of parts in the box. You might find a quick look at the assembly instructions helpful in understanding how it works.Boot Butler Ladder part image

There is however one minor issue that you need to be aware of. If you buy two 3-pair boot racks, and you want to hang them together in one column/stack, 6 pairs of boots high, you'll need one extra Ladder part (pictured on right) in order to connect the two racks together.

Most closet rods are only high enough to hang a column 5 pairs high, so it's very rare that someone runs into this issue, but if you do, we are happy to send the extra part out free of charge - just drop us an email after you place your order letting us know what you want to do with your boot racks, so that we can verify exactly what additional parts you need.

Please also see the related question: Can I hang more than 5 pairs of boots vertically, or is 5-pairs high the limit?

Can I mix and match Boot Butler boot storage racks from several packages together (e.g. can I use a 3-pair rack with a 5-pair rack)?

Yes. The only difference between the different packages is the number of parts included. All of the parts are interchangeable.

Does the Boot Butler boot rack work with shoes?

While we didn't design it for this purpose, most shoes can be suspended from a Boot Butler boot rack.

Why is the Boot Butler boot storage rack the best way to store my boots?

  1. By utilizing the least important dimension of your closet space (the depth, which is generally at least 22 inches (56 CM) where there is a closet rod) to accommodate the longest dimension of your tall boots (their height), the Boot Butler saves about half the space as compared with using boot shapers, boxes, or upside down racks that sit on the floor.

  2. It displays all of your boots for easy visibility and access.

  3. It gently cradles your boots from the inside to keep them looking great, and extend their life.

  4. It works in virtually any closet. It's easily portable.

  5. It is incredibly versatile.  Boot Butler allows most people to store every pair of tall boots they own. Other options only work with certain styles of boots.

  6. It will never stretch or damage your boots, as many other boot storage product can and do.

Can I hang more than 5 pairs of boots vertically, or is 5-pairs high the limit?

We recommend hanging a maximum of 5 to 6-pairs of boots vertically, depending on the weight of your boots and the stability of the support that you plan to hang them from. You can hang more, but depending on the weight of the boots, the top boot ladder that hangs from the closet rod or the rod itself may not be able to support the weight. Use good judgement. If you feel that its too much weight for your particular situation, just hang the last pair of boots along side.

Can my closet rod support the weight of the Boot Butler?

It's impossible for us to guarantee that your closet can handle the weight. If your closet is properly installed with quality materials, it should not be a problem. We encourage you to use your best judgement. If you feel that your closet rod is not very sturdy, limit your boot columns to 3-4 pairs of boots vertically so that the weight is more spread out along the rod.

Does any other company make a boot storage system similar to the Boot Butler boot rack?

No. It's one of a kind! It's patent-pending, so there's only one Boot Butler.
