Bold boot fashions on runways this fall were marked by a retro style – some very, very retro. Below we present some of this season’s highlights for inspiration and admiration.

We’ll begin with these Victorian-style red leather boots from Altuzzara via Harper’s Bazaar Paris Fashion Week photo gallery.  They come well over the knee so no hoop skirts are needed (or necessary) with this saucy throwback.

Zero Maria Cornejo paired minimalist, black, knee-high boots with a furry poncho, whose red stripes add a bit of flash and glamour.

Lovely deep pink velvety boots from Chanel were paired with a dress inspired by traditional Indian garb.

Fashion journos at Harper’s Bazaar noted the midcalf boot trend, seen at Christian DiorGivenchy and Belgium’s Dries van Noten. Similar to an ankle boot, this look is paired with cropped pants and midi skirts.

FendiGucci, and Italy’s Antonio Marras showed fur-covered boots – some, as you can see, quite furry indeed!

Mary Katrantzou showcased these retro-futuristic, lace up, open front boots that go well past the knee.

Here’s Tommy Hilfiger’s twist on a cheerleader look, paired with shiny ankle boots – a cross between bowling shoes and Converse sneakers.

And another notable look from Altuzzara: Knee-high boots harking back to the Victorian era, paired with a daring slit skirt.  Glamour Magazine’s Paris fashion coverage also featured plenty of boots, and we’ve pulled some of our favorites below.

Christine Dior paired electric blue, mid-calf boots with their “car wash” skirt.

Fendi featured ankle-high furry boots with a fun geometric outfit.

New Zealand’s Rebecca Taylor paired a flirty, 1970s vibe dress with burgundy, thigh-high boots.

These buckled Coach boots pair nicely with the heavy black coat.

Alice & Olivia cleverly matched the delicate filigreed pattern on their mini dress with the pattern on their almost-knee-high boots.  We’ll now move on to Elle’s coverage of boots – and more – from Milan Fashion Week.

Alberta Ferretti paired rich brown suede with a furry, earth-toned poncho.

The silver accent on the toes of these tall black boots from Italy’s MSGM make the decorative accents on the skirt pop.

Au Jour le Jour’s shiny, baby blue thigh highs accent the outfit’s bold, bright patterns.

Padded, bright red tall boots from Moschino are paired with a long, bright blue jacket: An unconventional but certainly cozy and warm look.

Versace paired a bright green clutch with tall green boots and a simple black frock for an elegant yet fun look.

Lots of black-and-white geometry: dots, circles, and checkered patterns on both boots and outfit from Emilio Pucci. We’ll close out with Cosmopolitan’s look at the hottest 2015 footwear from around the world.

Here’s an extremely narrow, spindle-like heel with an alligator pattern on an Ackermann ankle boot.

A thick belt and shiny brass heel by Acne Studios creates a unique look.

Chloe combines an open front and brown leather sash into a svelte pair of boots reminiscent of Mary Jane’s that have grown up.

Lots of details in this ankle-high beauty from Elie Saab, including ocean blues and greens, delicate laces, and a peep-toe.

A slender leather top from Givenchy fits as snugly as a delicate sock and is paired with a tube-shaped, thick heel.

The tassels on these Lanvin boots add a great pop of texture. As you can see, lots of stunning designs were paired with a willingness to experiment with various shapes, styles, and colors.
We hope they’ve inspired you to come up with fantastic outfits this season!
